This week in Comm. Central: 08.29.11

Although Tokugawa Iemitsu (whom I'm sure you've all heard of time and time again) mysteriously has his own Facebook page (?!), I haven't found much for students with the exception of this 55-minute PBS program, The Will of the Shogun, part of a series on Japan: The Secret Empire. Sadly, I did not take the hour while the kids were in co-op to sit down with a good bowl of popcorn and watch this, so you are on your own.

At our house, we will be putting our Bible verse to the tune of "This Old Man" (or for you Barney lovers, "I Love You, You Love Me"):

If you're really desperate, you can put the History fact to the tune of "Itsy-bitsy Spider":

Ephesians 6: Roman armor--and art project idea

This blog had an illustration of Roman armor that may be helpful as we memorize the armor of God in the upcoming weeks, and here's a picture of the real thing (uh, but not the scriptural version) from the University of Pennsylvania.

I think I'll outline my son on a life-sized piece of paper--we have a roll of art paper that should work--and then have him draw the armor on the outline of himself and write the verse. If I can get a picture, I will!

If your child was in K5 (and maybe K4...?), you may have purchased the A to Z Sing the Word CD, which had a verse song for each letter of the alphabet, many of them to common kids' songs. Their letter P song, "Put on the Full Armor of God" is one of them and has an easy tune to memorize for this week; you can download the whole CD for $9.95 or just the sheet music for $1.25 if you're interested. I'm having a difficult time locating the separate mp3 tracks I thought they offered last year, so if you can find them, please feel free to put it in the comments section!

Psalm 34:18 song

For this week's memory verse, our good ol' Seeds Family Worship has an mp3 song that my four-year-old adores. When he came home from K4 a few weeks ago, he exclaimed, "Mom, did you know that God is close to the brokenhearted?! That means sad!"
